A little late on the game, but Dr. Marten re-released a few classics in their "Made in Monochrome" series. The shoes are available in solid smooth white or black, details and sole included. If I can make it two weeks without cussing, I am buying myself the first pair of boots below.

Summer is the time for ugly

Sort of. I tend to get trashy during the summer. The summer heat makes me twice as lethargic, and I often just throw on cut-offs and a random tee/tank, things that go best with bike riding and beer drinking.

Anyway, here are some ugly things I've enjoyed, available at Opening Ceremony.

I could totally see these Pegleg NYC tees at some bbq with delicious cheesburgers.

Also, omg, Maui revival line!? Remember this fugly line? Everyone would wear them with, like, neon tube socks. Regarding the model: if I got my hair cut like that, would people finally notice that I'm gay? Just saying.

Not quite as nice as APC, but good enough. I've been combing through ebay, finding less expensive alternatives to some APC favorites.

I hate nantucket red in most clothing, but I love how it looks on moccasins.

Braided leather bracelets. You might think "surfer dude aesthetic" right off the bat, but these could go SUPER well with feminine, clean, and light spring/summer outfits. Thinking cropped shorts, button downs, striped tees, easter colors.

Again, these alternatives are not nearly as nice, especially when it comes to crucial detailing and quality of material, but still, I am poor and superficial, and they will do for now.

Well, being white is cool again. Seems like most of the current trends are taking a cue from the past, that is, the look of old money. I've always loved this aesthetic, regardless of the class implications. In my opinion, though, these kinds of clothes are best worn by those who are able to create a fresher, more contemporary look ... otherwise, it makes for boring dowdiness.

New lines like Rag & Bone, Band of Outsiders, Filippa K, and Trovata all retain wonderful, nostalgic details of older lines like Fred Perry, Burberry, Aquascutum, and Brooks Brothers. I feel like bridging the gap between old and new is key in wearing this look.

Persistent Plaid

The problem with tasteful trends is that everyone co-opts classy, nice things so much that it becomes hard to discern between wearers with good taste and clueless followers. Plaid and flannel and gingham and tartan and blah blah blah blah is so popular these days. I can't complain because it's now readily available wherever I go that I don't have to search for it. Well, that's not true; I now have to search for really special, unique patterns and colors that would go over the head of the average entry-level alt idiot.

I found this vintage Aquascutum plaid scarf on ebay. I can't afford it, but man, is it beautiful. I love the colors and the tasteful lines/stripes that trim the plaid.

It has now occurred to me that some people may find it confusing that a small asian girl dresses like an old white man.
