Buckle Up

So, as most everyone knows, bike culture is huge in Portland, OR. People take huge pride in what bikes they ride (fixed gears, 'fixies,' are very popular here, but I prefer the classier road bike) and dress accordingly. Along with rolled up skinny jeans, I've noticed an inordinate number of Chrome messenger bags in this city. Chrome makes extremely practical, waterproof messengers bags that diagonally buckle at the wearer's chest, making it extremely easy to re-wear.

My beat up army messenger bag has proven a bit annoying to wear while biking. It moves around a lot, so much that I have to swing its weight back behind me at every opportunity I get. Now, I want a Chrome bag for myself.

I like the olive + red the best

Chrome's signature buckle.

Not a fixie!

purchases.

some dresses i found today, much to the dismay of my bank account. although, it could be much worse--i found them at Whorever 21 (go figure, right?). though i will say, i've often found some of my favorite pieces there; you just have to dig for them. the best things are the ones there are only one or two of scattered in the far corners of the store, i find.

it occurs to me: Sydney is always posting things she bought from nice, classy places--the likes of Built By Wendy and Opening Ceremony--while i'm always looking for cheap shit on eGay and at places like Whorever 21 (props to Miss Kelly Duroncelet for coining that genius name, btw). lol. i'm so un-fancy. well, whatever. i have $750 of rent to pay every month, bitch.

i know it's old news, but

i just remembered how much i loved some of the pieces from Kate Moss' Spring 08 Topshop line:

my favorite, naturally, being the Pansy Tea Dress (only in this print though):

there was also another floral dress, black with smaller magenta and yellow flowers, i think, and it had a high straight-across neckline, a more tapered skirt and fitted bodice, and the kind of sleeves that puff up and then taper halfway down the upper arm. it wasn't one of the conspicuous pieces in the collection, but on second thought i think that might have actually been my favorite. i remember we got a few samples at Nylon right before the line came out, and my boss called dibs on that one. i can't find a picture though :[

at first i kind of thought Kate was a douche for modeling her own line, but i guess that's horizontal integration for ya.

anywho, i guess what i'm trying to say here is, my favorite dress style right now is definitely a floaty (chiffon?!) floral tea-style frock. (esp. with obligatory manly shoes and beefy cable-knit grandpa cardigan.)

Autumn Nepotism

FALL'S COMING. We know what that means. Jackets, sweaters, long sleeves, pants, new denim, boots. Here are a couple of my favorites from the upcoming Fall/Winter 09 line from G1 Clothing. Oh, and G1 is my aunt's line. Available at boutiques and Anthropologie (lol). G1 takes a lot of inspiration from 40s vintage clothing, but with a modern touch. The pants are famous for making asses look great, ps.

who gives a fuck about an oxford ____?

me.
(sorry, that was mad gay. although, tangentially, i find oxford commas to be extraneous punctuational clutter. anyways.)

curse my size 8!! i sought out such fine specimens as these on ebay, but to no avail (sized 6.5 and 6, respectively):

(HAWT.)

although lately, as the ideal oxford has been difficult to track down in my size, i've adopted these as my rustic maw-maw shoe of choice:
i may even buy an extra pair, as i wear the ones i have almost every day, and i don't know how much longer they can withstand the spilt beer and fancy footwork (read: painful stomping) of the drunk white folks at Lit every Wednesday. oy.

oh, damn.

i am actually kinda diggin' some of this stuff:

WANT. (!!!!!)

WANT.

WANT.

from peeps.org. and it's so cheap! and also seems to benefit charities! O_O
(not to mention the pieces are nicely shot, and are modeled by women whose diets appear to consist of more than decaf soy lattes and Parliament Lights.)
